Billboard Presents Family Scarytime Classics

Happy Friday! Each Friday, we’ll share selections from our “Ultimate Halloween Playlist” to prepare the perfect soundtrack for your celebrations this year.  Today, we offer up an album I fell in love with as a child. When I was a kid (and still today), I would scour the shelves of my local library looking for undiscovered gems to satisfy my Halloween cravings. One year, I found a CD in the seasonal music section. The plastic case was cracked, and the paper insert was worn. The state of the CD case proved that this disk had been used and enjoyed many times before it landed in my hands.

Billboard Presents Family Scarytime Classics is a compilation of family friendly, classic themes from film and television. I played it on loop the first few times I checked it out. Although it has familiar Halloween staples like “The Addams Family Theme” and “This is Halloween” from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, many of the songs are from the 1950s and 1960s. These songs from singers like Peggy Lee and Kay Starr are a nostalgic reminder of Halloween festivities of the past and add vintage vibes to your diverse seasonal playlist.

Released in 1996, the album is still available to purchase here.

Enjoy a few of our favorites below:

1. “The Headless Horseman” by Kay Starr

This video mashup with Betty Boop is a treat.

2. “The Blob” by The Five Blobs

3. “Bewitched” by Peggy Lee

4. “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes” by Lewis Lee
