Feeling the need to incorporate a little Halloween merrymaking into our summertime traditions, we carved our very first watermelon Jack-O’-Lantern or “Jack-O’-Melon”. Click here to learn how to make one of your own!
The activity is family-friendly fun, and an added bonus is a fridge full of delicious watermelon. Get those summer parties in the Halloween spirit by turning those delicious melon pieces into crisp and refreshing cocktails.
With watermelon’s sweet taste, you can get creative with a number of flavor combinations. The recipe below combines cherries and blueberries to create a deep red blend that can be enjoyed this Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or Halloween.
Jack-O’-Melon Cocktails
You will need:
-Watermelon cubes, slices, or pieces from your Jack-O’-Melon (seedless)
-2 cups Cranberry Juice
-1 cup Blueberries
-1 jar Maraschino Cherries
-Vodka (optional)
-Ice
-Blender
-Strainer (optional)
-Garnishes: fruit pieces or tropical drink umbrellas (optional)
- Combine watermelon, cranberry juice, blueberries, and cherries in blender
- Add desired amount of vodka. Add as much or as little as you like. The flavor from the fruit and juice masks the taste of the alcohol, so adding a few cups won’t overpower the cocktail. Simply leave out the vodka for a delicious, fruit-filled drink that can be enjoyed at any age.
- Add desired amount of ice. About two cups should be enough.
- Blend!
- Strain, if desired. We like the variety of textures from the fruit, but if you’d like a smoother cocktail, strain the mixture over ice.
- Garnish & Enjoy!
