Most people are enjoying the lazy days of summer, soaking up those rays, and enjoying the slow and leisurely pace of the warmer months before the kids head back to school. For Halloweenheads like us though, the countdown to Halloween 2017 has begun! It’s less than 100 days until this year’s big day, and the season of celebration begins even sooner.
Here are 3 upcoming events to get you in the spooky spirit and kickstart your planning for Halloween 2017.
Midsummer Scream
For residents of southern California, Halloween comes early every summer at this annual Halloween convention in Long Beach. This weekend’s convention is guaranteed to inspire your creativity for Halloween merrymaking offering panels, exhibits, presentations, vendors, haunt attraction experiences, and live entertainment. With special appearances by Cassandra Peterson (aka Elvira!), Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding), Kane Hodder (Jason Vorhees), and Tony Moran (Michael Myers)- this is an event you don’t want to miss! The fun begins this Saturday, July 29th. Get your tickets here!
ScareLA
The following weekend, the horror and haunt tribe of southern California is heading to The Los Angles Convention Center for ScareLA. This is the convention’s 5 year anniversary, and they have big plans for this years theme, “Monsters Come Together”. In addition to their tradition of interactive haunt entertainment, they’re offering presentations, demos, screenings, and classes to take your Halloween planning from elementary to expert. ScareLA begins August 5th. Get your tickets here!
Slashback Video
Remember the days of frequenting the local video store, browsing the VHS covers, asking for a recommendation from the store clerk- all to select the perfect movie to bring back home and terrify you! In the age of streaming media, cinephiles long for the good old days of the mom and pop video store experience: the ambiance, the sense of community with other movie lovers, the gallery of posters and cover art, and the selection process.
Lucky for us, Blumhouse Productions Director of Development (Ryan Turek) is partnering with Bearded Lady’s Mystic Museum to bring that nostalgia back to Burbank, California with Slashback Video. The 2-month long art installation will transport visitors back to the heyday of 80s VHS horror and recreate the video store experience… right in time for Halloween season!
The event is also sponsored by some of the best horror brands in the industry: Phantom Carriage, Creepy Company, Mixtape Massacre, Fright-Rags, and Waxwork Records.
Slashback Video opens September 9th at Bearded Lady’s Mystic Museum in Burbank, CA. For more information, click here!
