“Monster Mash” – Bobby “Boris” Pickett & The Crypt-Kickers

Monster Mash cover

Released as a novelty song in 1962, the “Monster Mash” has been a yearly Halloween classic beloved by young and old alike. The hit was inspired in part by actor Bobby Pickett’s Boris Karloff impression and the Mashed Potato dance trend at the time. The song includes several Halloween appropriate sound effects that were created in the studio. The sound of a creaking door was created by prying a nail from a board, heavy chains were dropped on wood to create the sound of rattling noises of a chained monster, and bubbles were blown through straws to imitate the bubble of a cauldron and the beakers of a mad scientist.

The season wouldn’t be complete without doing the Monster Mash. We hope it’s a graveyard smash for you and your guests this Halloween.
