WEEKLY TREATS

Quote of the week

“Where there is no imagination, there is no horror”

– Arthur Conan Doyle

We’re Watching…

If you follow us on Instagram, you know we’ve been hosting the ABCs of Horror Challenge over the past few weeks.

Each day of May, we’ve been making our way through the alphabet, watching a new horror movie every day, and sharing our favorites.

Although it’s been quite a challenge to squeeze in a new movie every day- we have discovered SO many new favorites thanks to recommendations from you Halloweenheads! Some horror movies we’ve enjoyed for the first time so far: As Above, So Below, The Breed, Candyman, The Den, I Don’t Feel at Home in this World Anymore… just to name a few! We’ll be sharing our full list of choices, including which movies blew us away as the challenge concludes at the end of the month.

We’re Listening To…

To stay in the spirit, we’re playing our Ultimate Halloween Playlist on Spotify all year!

The tune we’re digging this week is “Magick” by Ryan Adams & The Cardinals. He’s one of our favorite artists any time of year, and he’s the dude who brought us “Halloweenhead“. When we saw him in concert many years ago, he even had a Jack-O’-Lantern on the stage, so he knows how to provide those Halloween feels.

We’re Reading…

If you’re reading our site, it’s safe to assume you are a diehard fan of all things Halloween.

Trend and Treats Halloween 2018 Mr and Mrs Halloween Halloween News Horror News

We always felt jilted that Christmas got 25 days of celebration-themed programming while Halloween was condensed to only 13 on the network formerly known as ABC Family.

Well, they’ve righted their wrongs by expanding the yearly schedule to include a full month of Halloween entertainment.

To top it off, Freeform is teasing an all-new special Decorating Disney: Halloween. Like they’ve shown us at Christmas before, the special will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the work that goes into transforming Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts for the best holiday of the year.

This year’s programming will pay tribute to the universally-adored Hocus Pocus as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. They’ve already put a spell on us with this news!

31 Nights of Halloween begins October 1st!

Trick ‘r Treat Coming to Universal Halloween Horror Nights 2018

Trend and Treats Halloween 2018 Mr and Mrs Halloween Halloween News Horror NewsLast year, we were super bummed that Orlando got a Trick ‘r Treat Scare Zone, and Hollywood didn’t. They’re making it up to us this year with Wednesday’s announcement that for Halloween 2018 there will be a whole maze dedicated to Sam and Trick ‘r Treat!

While we’re still holding out hope for Trick ‘r Treat 2, this will help fill the void until then.

This is the second maze announced for this year’s HHN, the first being Stranger Things.

Now, where’s that Scream maze we’ve been waiting for?

Dates for Halloween Horror Nights 2018 haven’t been released yet, so there’s one more thing we’ll have to wait for patiently.

THE RETURN OF FANGORIA!

Trend and Treats Halloween 2018 Mr and Mrs Halloween Halloween News Horror News

Do you remember your first experience flipping through the pages of Fangoria magazine?

I used to make my dad drive me across town to a comic shop where I could peruse Buffy the Vampire Slayer action figures and buy Fangoria magazine. I remember taking my time on each page, soaking up every word of insider information, staring fascinated at the photos of special effects, and savoring every bit of horror goodness until I closed the back cover.

Then the internet exploded, and when you wanted the latest on upcoming horror projects, you just Googled it.

By 2016, Fangoria’s fate seemed bleak and longtime fans wondered if they’d ever see a new issue again… until NOW!

Like many of the horror titles it covered over the years, Fangoria is getting a REBOOT!

Birth.Movies.Death editor Phil Nobile, Jr. is at the helm for the relaunch of the magazine that (get this) will be a PRINT-ONLY PUBLICATION.

Yeah- like not online… only on paper… in exchange for money.

This is exactly one of the elements that made Fangoria so special back in the day.

Honestly, we’d prefer a physical magazine over a Pinterest board or news feed any day!

The new Fangoria will be published quarterly and feature in-depth articles with never before heard insider stories from your favorite horror films. As opposed to the press release boilerplate regurgitation we see on most websites every day, these issues will be crafted with care and feature unique perspectives on the genre we all love.

Fangoria will release its new issue in October! You can sign up for your yearly subscription to the magazine HERE!

Trend and Treats Halloween 2018 Mr and Mrs Halloween Halloween News Horror News

If you grew up in the 90s, chances are you were obsessed with Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

Lucky for fans like us, the series is being adapted into a feature-length film set to release on October 11, 2019.

And who’s bringing the show to a modern audience? Gary Dauberman, the dude who wrote IT and Annabelle: Creation and the upcoming The Nun, Hellfest, and It: Chapter Two. With his recent horror successes, I think we can trust Dauberman to get this right.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said, “The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones. We’re going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show…
