Words cannot describe how heartbroken we were on Sunday evening to hear of Wes Craven passing from brain cancer at 76. He was my idol and directed some of the best horror movies of all time. From watching countless interviews, he seemed so intelligent and kind.

Hollywood friends and supporters voiced their sadness on Twitter:

Bob Weinstein of Dimension Films released the following statement:

“I am heartbroken at the news of Wes Craven’s passing. We enjoyed a 20 year professional relationship and more importantly a warm and close friendship. He was a consummate filmmaker and his body of work will live on forever. My brother and I are eternally grateful for all his collaborations with us. Our deepest sympathy to his family.” (Entertainment Weekly)

Neve Campbell, star of Craven’s Scream franchise released a statement today:

“We lost a great deal of magic yesterday. I’m devastated to hear of Wes’s passing. My life wouldn’t be what it is without him. I will be forever grateful for his brilliant direction, his wicked sense of humor and his consummate kindness and friendship. He has entertained us all for decades and inspired so many to follow in his path. I loved Wes dearly and will miss him always. Thank you Wes!!!” (Entertainment Weekly)
