Sheri Moon Inspired Fashion: House of 1000 Corpses

While there’s never a bad opportunity to celebrate the badass females of the horror genre, we recently discovered that February is the official month dedicated to women in horror. We thought it the perfect opportunity to celebrate one of our favorite scream queens, a woman known not only for the characters she portrays on film, but also for her signature retro style and inspired fashion choices: Sheri Moon Zombie.

Sheri’s personal style is as diverse as the woman herself, rising to the occasion of whatever the day brings. This vegan’s look can be carefree bohemian by day and transform into badass rocker chick by night.

The costumes her characters wear on screen often appear to be an extension of her own fashion choices. No matter what time period or situation, Mrs. Zombie has had many iconic looks throughout her film career. Sheri makes every design she dons look so good, we can’t help but turn to her for inspiration when selecting fashion pieces or defining our own style.

It’s hard to choose which SMZ fashion moment to choose from. Her striped, visually-striking sweater and dreads in Lords of Salem? Her vintage jeans and lacy top in The Devil’s Rejects? Her ’70s-inspired wild coats and killer boots in Halloween? While those should all be covered in time, there’s no better place to start than the beginning: Amanda Friedland’s costume for Baby Firefly in Rob Zombie’s debut film House of 1000 Corpses.

Our first Sheri-inspired look combines elements of the film’s time period with the wild, bubbly personality of Baby Firefly.

This faux-suede coat will keep you warm during the last few weeks of winter but is light enough to keep on hand as a fashion staple as we transition into spring. SMZ always makes the 1970s look hip, fun, and sexy. Make that signature ’70s swag your own with this flowing top, vintage-inspired jeans, and poppy glasses. Like Baby in the film, you can stay dry and stylish with this inexpensive, dotted umbrella.

Where to get Baby’s look: Faux-Suede Coat: JCPenney, Top: Charlotte Russe, Pants: Abercrombie & Fitch, Hat: Buckle, Boots: Free People, Umbrella: Walmart, Glasses: Charlotte Russe.

We mashed up two costumes for our second look, finding inspiration from the recent fashion trend of combining contrasting sporty and glamorous styles.

A must-have item to add to your collection, the athletic varsity sweater, is light and can easily be removed and tied around the waste as the temperature warms up. This patterned dress is elegant and loose for the breezy spring weather ahead. The chunky boot is a grungy way to add some edge to the femininity of the dress, and the glittery backpack gives nod to the glamorous style and childlike innocence of the character.

Where to get Baby’s look: Dress: Forever 21, Jacket: American Eagle, Backpack: Free People, Boots: H & M

She’s cool. She’s sexy. She’s an ass-kicking horror villain and hero. She’s a rocker chick, an animal-loving vegan, and a style icon not to be ignored. We encourage you to find some inspiration from Sheri Moon when selecting your outfits and refining your personal style this season because this scream queen likes to get fucked up and do fucked up shit… and looks fabulous doing it.

  1. The faux-suede coat and athletic varsity sweater is perfect for last winter. Warm enough and also light to keep on hand or tied around the waist. And the Backpack looks great. I like shining things~

    1. Thank you so much for reading and commenting! We tried to keep the looks in the style of Mrs. Zombie but also easily incorporated into one’s daily wardrobe. Thank you again, and happy shopping this Spring!
